5 Signs You Might Have a Mouse (or Rat) in Your House

Five signs that you might have rodents in your house.

Did you know that nearly a third of Americans admit they’ve had a rodent problem? If you’re unlucky enough to spot a mouse in your house, there’s never just one mouse. You’ve got mice! Here are five signs that you might have rodents in your house:

1. Rodent droppings.
Common places to look for rodent droppings are around food packages, in drawers or cupboards, and under the sink. You may notice a musky odor or you may even be able to smell their urine.

2. Nesting material such as shredded paper, fabric, or dried plant matter.
Look for nesting material such as shredded paper, fabric, or dried plant matter in secluded corners, beneath cabinets, at the base of kitchen appliances, and in cluttered garages.

3. Signs of chewing on food packaging.
Mice will chew through bags in search of food. If you notice gnawing, it may be a sign of mice.

4. Holes chewed through walls and floors that create entry points into the home.
Mice are able to enter through holes the size of a dime. If you have PVC piping and have a water leak, you should always examine the pipe for signs of mice. Mice are able to chew through these pipes if the pipes are not properly protected.

5. Scratching sounds.
You may be able to hear the mice in the walls, especially at night.
